What it Takes (the inbetween generation)
by Scott Erb
The inbetween generation
Is a hard thing to be
You need imagination
To reach beyond and see
A future
Determined eyes, well groomed smile
Light red hair, she waits in line
With the faceless mass, single file
She stands out without even trying
She’s got what it takes
Confidence and poise despite the uncertainty
She’s real not a fake
Not ready to waste away her mortality
She knows the pretty dress up scene
Painted faces, pretend to be a glamour star
Acting out a role, lost in a dream
Glitz hides reality, forget who you are
She knows how to play that game
But she wants something better
She’s got what it takes to change
To rise above the others
Clear bright eyes, a calm cool manner
Jet black hair, he surveys the scene
Rising above the faceless chatter
He sets his sights on his own dream
He’s got what it takes
Confidence and poise despite the uncertainty
He’s real, not a fake
Not ready to waste away his mortality
He knows the act, be tough be strong
Dress in black with an air of cruel indifference
Acting out a role, lost in a fog
Tough outer shell hiding inner rage and fear
He knows how to play that game
But he wants something better
He’s got what it takes to change
To rise above the others
The inbetween generation
Requires strength, confidence and dreams
With inspired imagination
There is no limit to what they can achieve
Most will flow along, do the same old thing
They’ll go with what the day brings
But for the few who have what it takes
The future is theirs to create
