Skiing in the Rhein valley? Not very likely, the area is as flat as eastern South Dakota. However, on top of an old landfill they have built a ski slope, pictured at left from the inside and right from the outside. Not cheap (about $30 a lift ticket, cheaper if you go early AM or late evening), it gives Germans a chance to ski even in summer, even in the Rhein valley. These are also popular in the very flat country of the Netherlands. We visited on a Monday morning, and you can see they had a decent number of skiers. They also have a ski shop, a coffee bar, a real bar, and a travel agency right in the building that arranges trips to the Alps for real skiing. The scenery could be improved, but its a good idea and I'm sure they make money. Next to it someone is planning on building an indoor golf center. When you lack space of mountains, all it takes is a bit of ingenuity! That's it for "other German photos" for the time being. More will be posted later!
