The path down the Rhein towards the old Bundestag and government section of town. In the second picture the trail continues on towards Bad Godesberg and all the way down the Rhein. You can easily bike the entire river, and many Germans take a bike trip along the Rhein or Mosel or Donau (Danube), as bike trails are everywhere. When I lived in Bonn my favorite ride was to go down the trail above to Remagen, and then cross over to the other side and ride back (after the bridge in the picture Remagen has the next bridge, though there are a number of ferry sites). In the other direction Cologne is a main site, about 35 kilometers from Bonn. I explored the region on bike a lot while there, both down the Rhein, but also outside of Bonn towards Euskirchen and other locales. One thing I remember is that every time I did, I thought to myself, "this is a special time in life where I have an opportunity to really enjoy being here in Germany and savor every minute" -- and I did. That's always been my philosophy: savor and live every moment and enjoy it to the fullest. Sure, we all grow old, time passes by, and nothing lasts forever. If we don't appreciate the present, then what do we have?
