The area between Alexanderplatz and Unter den Linden is full of old buildings, churches, museums, and remnants of the past. I remember my first walk through this section back in 1989 I was amazed; it's beautiful and impressive, and gives the city some character. However, most of the old historical section of Berlin was in the East, leaving the West looking modern and in some ways not as interesting. Clearly, divided Berlin yielded two very incomplete cities. Together, Berlin is again as it should be.
