More photos of Bonn's Innenstadt. One reason I love Bonn as a city is that I find its Innenstadt especially active, pleasant, and beautiful. People in Bonn are friendly as well, it has a bit of a small town flair, despite being a decent sized city. In the first picture you can see the market and one of the two main squares of the city (one has the market and the old city hall, the other has the post office and the Beethoven statue, they are within five minutes from each other in the pedestrian zone). The streets are curvey and narrow, harkening back to the days when streets were designed that way to help defend the city. Attackers couldn't see what was beyond the curve in the road. Of course, before cars were around wide streets weren't necessary. Bonn was just starting to get its Christmas lights up when these photos were taken in November 2001. Christmas is stunningly beautiful in Germany. Cities like Bonn have Christmas markets, where the atmosphere is fun and lively, as candies, Gluehwein (a heated spiced wine -- yummy), and knick knacks are sold in the center of town. The most famous Christmas market is the Christkindlmarkt in Nuernberg, Bavaria. You can see in the photos above that small shops are common and business is brisk.
