I think what I miss most about Germany is the ubitquitious bakeries. Bread and pastries are important to Germans, they often get fresh bread daily for breakfast (which usually consists of bread with jams, cheeses, and wurst), and often have coffee or tea in the afternoon with some fresh pastries. It's not very expensive, and the above examples are just two of many bakeries in Bonn; every city has them, Germans rarely buy the kind of pre-packaged bread we have. I taught myself how to bake bread when I returned from Germany the first time, I can't eat traditional American bread anymore! The bakery in the picture on the left is the one that remained Berliners to Bonners after the decision to move the capital. They have since gone back to having Berliners with their proper name, but have concocted a new pastrie called a "Bonner" which is a Berliner with icing rather than sugar coating.
