Participation Introduction and Rubric:
Introduction:
Participation is a critical component of the course. It may take the form of commenting on the reading, bringing ideas to the table, or sharing your work and thoughts. Good participation goes beyond summary of the material--although that's a good place to start. In your preparations for class, look over past notes, readings, and other material that might spark interest.
Participation Rubric:
A: Outstanding:
Attendance is excellent (perfect, near perfect); you are always prepared for class and your contributions demonstrate the ability to take risks, listen, and bring additional material or insight to the table.
B: Good:
Usually B is the above, but less so. You may always be prepared, but your contribution is more summary.
C: Satisfactory to Limited:
Your attendance is okay and you're prepared most of the time. Sometimes your performance is weak; that is, you contribute little to the conversation. You don't always respond to feedback. You could also be at an A or B level but struggle with attendance issues.
D or F: Poor or Failing.
Little to no contribution. Often unprepared. Attendance is usually a problem.
