January 20
  • Read Chapters 1 and 2 before Thursday's class. (Update the Google document Errata page as you find errors that are not already listed in the document.) Remember, as you are reading, it might be helpful to draw lots and lots of pictures. (I'll assign homework problems from Chapter 2 on Thursday.)
  • Make sure you can get to the class quizzes on Blackboard. If you have trouble, please see me.

    • Chapter 2 homework: Starting on page 25, do 1-7. Starting on page 23, do 4,8,12,13,18. On Tuesday, be ready with a couple problems to present that are giving you trouble. If you can do them all, be ready to present a couple problems that you find most interesting.

    • Read Chapter 4 (we're skipping 3 for now). Update the wiki with errors that are not already listed in the document.
    • Today's lab is due next Tuesday. CHANGE OF PLANS: I want the code and the handouts with all questions answered.
  • Remember, the Chapter 2 quiz must be completed by Thursday morning, and two written problems are due by 3 pm Friday.

  • Next Tuesday your labs are due (send me the EXCEL file and turn in the handout).

    • Problem B: Let X(1), X(2), X(3), and X(4) be the order statistics of iid random variables that a re distributed Exp(t). Find the expectation and variacne of X(2).
