Okay, you've done it!  You've educated yourself about a complex issue that has consequences for everyone.  You've learned that there are multiple points of view about this issue, which is only one of the things that makes it so complex.  Hopefully you've learned that people of good will can differ in their perspectives on serious issues.  What else did you learn?

Maybe you're more aware that the technology that provides so much that's positive and helpful also has a dark side.  Maybe you're more committed to staying informed about developments in technology, the law, and other relevant issues.  Maybe you're a little less likely to take privacy for granted, and a little more empowered to take steps to protect yourself and the patrons of your library.  Good!  That was the plan.  This really wasn't about scaring you and making you have bad dreams.

You also got to visit a lot of Web sites, and to look at them with a critical eye.  You can bookmark a whole host of sites that will help you keep up with this and related issues.  You probably even found some that represent your own personal point of view, or some that you can contribute thoughts, opinions, and information to.  Good!  Being a librarian is all about staying in touch, staying abreast of what's going on in the field, and keeping an open mind about what actually constitutes our field.

Thanks for taking the WebQuest.  I hope you found it useful.  If you have suggestions, comments, or gripes, send me an email by clicking on my name -- Janet Brackett -- below.  As long as you're polite, I'll be happy to respond!
